Two Catholic churches in Co Antrim were damaged in weekend arson attacks

Two Catholic churches in Co Antrim were damaged in weekend arson attacks. Parishioners of St Patrick's Church in Derriaghy on the outskirts of Belfast celebrated Mass in the open air yesterday after minor scorch and smoke damage was caused to the building's hall and door.

Inflammable liquid was poured through the main door of the church on the Barnfield Road at around 12.30 a.m. yesterday and set alight.

The Chapel, Chapel Hill, Lisburn, also suffered scorch damage after two wooden pallets were placed against the main door and set alight. A stained glass window was also broken in the attack at 3.30 a.m. yesterday.
