A robber armed with a hammer punched a man and threatened a female staff member at a takeaway in Belfast before making off with a sum of money this morning.

The robbery took place at 1.20am on Doagh Road in Newtownabbey.

A PSNI spokeswoman said the man was tall and slim, in his 20s or 30s and wearing dark clothes and a balaclava.

The PSNI are appealing for anybody with information relating to the incident to contact them.
