An armed raider escaped with a small amount of money after holding up a post office at gunpoint in Co Laois, gardai said.
The balaclava-clad man entered Timahoe post office at about 9.30am and threatened staff with a handgun.
Gardai said he made his getaway with an undisclosed amount of money.
The post office was immediately closed and sealed off for a forensic examination.
“He carried what was believed to be a handgun,” said a Garda spokesman.
“He made off with an undisclosed amount of money.”
Gardai in Portlaoise are investigating the incident and appealed to the public for information.
The raider is described as being about five foot in height and of thin build.
The amount of money taken is not believed to be substantial.
Raiders have targeted post offices in Gorey, Kilkenny city and Carlow town since the beginning of the year.
