Two armed raiders escaped with an undisclosed amount of money after robbing a bookmaker's in Clonee, Co Meath, yesterday. Gardai say one of the robbers was carrying a sawn-off shotgun. The other used a hammer to break the glass screen at the counter and take the money.

The motorcycle on which the pair escaped was later found abandoned nearby at Stirling. Gardai said that they recovered helmets and clothing worn by the raiders, who were last seen entering a jeep at Stirling. Gardai at Dunboyne have appealed for anyone with information to come forward.
