An ongoing security alert in south Armagh forced a number of locals to spend the night away from their homes.

Six houses were evacuated after a beer keg with wires was found by a member of the public on the Castleblaney Road, Keady, yesterday.

Army bomb experts and police remained at the scene overnight and a five-mile stretch of road was cordoned off.

Separately, a man was arrested today following an attempted mortar bomb attack on Keady police station earlier this year.

The 39-year-old was detained in Lurgan, Co Armagh, in connection with the February alert.
