A High Court challenge has been brought to the Minister for Education’s refusal to sanction the appointment of a home tutor for a child with autism.

Susan Dunne, Corlurgan, Bailieborough, Co Cavan, last year sought to hire a woman as tutor for her two-year-old son, who has autism spectrum disorder.

But the department informed Ms Dunne the woman was not a suitable tutor but gave no reasons for that, she said. Leave to bring the challenge was granted on an ex-parte basis (one side only represented) by Mr Justice Michael Peart.
