It's not easy to upstage Madonna, but two anti-fur protesters managed to do just that when they stormed the catwalk at Italian designer Donatella Versace's haute couture show in Paris on Saturday.

Two demonstrators claiming allegiance to People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA)jumped on the catwalk in mid-show before a stunned audience that included the American pop diva, actress Gwyneth Paltrow and Rolling Stone Ron Wood.

Security guards tackled a brown-haired woman and removed her from the catwalk at the venue inside the vast Trocadero cultural centre opposite the Eiffel Tower.

A well-dressed blonde woman managed to partially unroll a banner reading "Fur Kills. Peta" in front of photographers before being wrestled to the ground, a few yards from where Madonna sat.

The woman was escorted away as models, apparently oblivious to the incident, continued to strut down the narrow glass catwalk. Moments later, the mood was back to normal as Madonna and Paltrow exchanged jokes.
