Newcastle have handed defender Andy O'Brien a long-term contract extension which will keep him at St James' Park until 2007.

Newcastle have handed defender Andy O'Brien a long-term contract extension which will keep him at St James' Park until 2007.

The Republic of Ireland international has put pen to paper on a new deal after establishing himself as a first-team regular under boss Bobby Robson this season.

O'Brien has played 33 games for the Magpies this season after joining from Bradford just over 12 months ago for a fee of Stg£1million.
