Darren Anderton has signed a new four-year contract with Tottenham.

The England midfielder, who joined Spurs from Portsmouth for Stg£1.75million in 1992, was out of contract this summer and manager Glenn Hoddle was keen for him to stay.

And following weeks of negotiations, Anderton has finally put pen to paper on the new deal.

Anderton, 29, had a good relationship with Hoddle when he played under him for England and has now decided to commit his future to the club.

So far this summer, Hoddle has signed Teddy Sheringham on a Bosman free transfer from Manchester United, Gus Poyet from Chelsea for £1.5million and Yugoslav defender Goran Bunjevcevic from Red Star Belgrade for £1.4million.

Spurs flew out to La Manga today to begin their pre-season with a week's training in Spain. -PA
