Beleaguered accounting firm Andersen said today Mr Aldo Cardoso, head of Andersen in France, would become acting chief executive with immediate effect.
Mr Cardoso, also chairman of Andersen’s board, succeeds Mr Joseph Berardino, who resigned last week.
An Andersen statement said Mr Cardoso had been appointed for an indefinite term.
The accounting firm has been indicted in the United States for its role as auditor of Enron, the US energy trader which filed for bankruptcy last December.
