A series of national one-day strikes planned by ambulance workers to begin tomorrow have been postponed

A series of national one-day strikes planned by ambulance workers to begin tomorrow have been postponed. Following a meeting between the SIPTU national industrial secretary, Mr Matt Merrigan, and the employer group HSEA, the union agreed to defer strike action, a spokesman said yesterday.

This followed agreement that direct negotiations would open on Thursday, assisted by an agreed facilitator, with a view to finding a settlement.
