Amazon.com Inc., the Internet's largest retailer, has reported a narrower loss for the first quarter while revenue grew, driven by strong international sales.

The Seattle-based seller of books, music, electronics and other goods reported a net loss of $10 million, or 3 cents per share, compared with a net loss of $23 million, or 6 cents per share, a year earlier.

Amazon fell back into the red after posting its second-ever net profit in the last three months of 2002.

Revenue rose to $1.084 billion from $847 million a year earlier. Analysts polled by Thomson First Call had forecast, on average, revenue of $1.05 billion.
