Officials in Galway of the Mandate trade union picketed the new Aldi retail store when it opened yesterday because of dismissals at the company's Dublin branch.

According to Mandate members, the issue is Aldi's refusal to recognise trade unions. The company claims that three employees were dismissed after failing to carry out duties outlined in their contract, while two other probationary staff were let go.
