The Taoiseach, Mr Ahern, is to meet with his Hungarian counterpart this afternoon to discuss the European Commission’s policy on enlargement.
The one-day visit by Hungarian Prime Minister Mr Viktor Orbán is part of a series of visits he is making to EU member states to discuss the Commission’s proposed funding of enlargement, a spokesman for the Hungarian embassy said today.
Hungry has expressed its disatisfaction with the Commission’s proposal issued on January 30th, which also sets out its approach for future plans in agriculture, structural policies and the budget.
Mr Orbán has already visited Britain and will leave for Belgium this evening. He also plans to visit The Netherlands, Italy and Spain. He is due to have talks with the President of the European Parliament, Mr Pat Cox, and the President of the European Commission, Mr Romano Prodi, during his tour.
