The Taoiseach, Mr Ahern, will meet with British prime minister Mr Tony Blair in London tomorrow to assess the general political situation in Northern Ireland.
Speaking on BBC television today, Mr Ahern said progress had been "very good" on implementing most aspects of the Belfast Agreement.
"From a peaceful point of view, from a progress point of view, there are no extraordinary pressurising points that are creating major difficulties," Mr Ahern said.
He said the two-hour talks in Downing Street, were "more (about) looking at the issues and making sure we can build progress.
"I think the main thing for us now is to make sure that all of those issues of equality, of progress that were set out in the agreement, the institutions that are going very well, that we can pace with that," he said.
Tomorrow’s meeting is the first chance Mr Ahern and British Prime Minister Tony Blair have had this year to discuss the situation in northern Ireland.
Mr Blair and Mr Ahern will also look at progress on paramilitary disarmament, the phased withdrawal of British troops and how to ease tensions during the Protestant marching season later in the year.
Mr Ahern said reform of the police force remained one of the biggest problems.
