Kabul - Troops loyal to Afghanistan's northern alliance have taken advantage of a series of local rebellions to advance to within four kilometres of Bamiyan City, independent sources confirmed yesterday.
The sources said the fighting escalated in central Bamiyan province in recent days, with battles in Bamiyan City itself being waged between the Taliban and the Hezb-iWhadat faction of the alliance.
