Act One has suffered a leg injury and will miss the Budweiser Irish Derby at the Curragh on Sunday, trainer Jonathan Pease announced today.

The French trained horse sustained the injury on Sunday and Pease has taken the decision to retire him to stud.

The three-year-old, a runner-up in the French Derby, was quoted by many bookmakers as a 2-1 chance for the €1.3 million event and was anticipated to give Vodafone Derby hero High Chaparral (8-13) a stern test at the Co Kildare track.

"Act One suffered a hairline fracture of his hind cannon bone while doing a routine exercise on Sunday," Pease confirmed in a statement.

"Although the horse is expected to make a complete recovery it will not be possible to prepare him for an autumn campaign."
