Three men have been arrested following separate attempts on different occasions to abduct schoolchildren in east Co Cork over the past week, writes Dick Hogan.

Gardai say they were called to a school at Kileagh yesterday after a man, described as being in his thirties, attempted to entice a six-year-old girl and a her 10-year-old brother into a van. The children became alarmed and ran back to the school.

Gardai arrested a man under section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act after arriving at the scene.

The man was still being questioned at Youghal Garda station early this morning.
