Almost £9 million has been paid out by the Hepatitis C Compensation Tribunal to victims of contaminated blood and blood products. The average award to the 80 claimants heard to date by Mr Justice Egan and tribunal members has been £107,700, but many have received and accepted awards as low as £30,000.
Others have been awarded more than £300,000, and many have accepted provisional awards which allow them to claim further compensation should their symptoms deteriorate.
