94% unhappy with Dublin house prices

A new survey of 75 cities has found that Dublin is one of the best for jobs but one of the worst for housing in Europe.

Some two-thirds of the respondents said it was easy to get a good job in Dublin, but 94 per cent said they had problems finding good quality housing at a reasonable price. Only Paris ranks as worse of the cities surveyed for housing.

Over half of Dubliners were dissatisfied with healthcare services, and only 56 per cent believe the capital will be a better place to live in five years from now.

That said, 94 per cent of respondents are happy living in Dublin and 85 per cent said that they felt safe there.

Most Dubliners think that noise is a big problem in the city and less than a third said that they would describe Dublin as a clean city. They accused city authorities of failing to spend available resources responsibly.

However, around two-thirds of people said they were either satisfied or very satisfied with public transport in the capital.

The survey was conducted in 70 cities in the 27 Member States of the European Union and five cities in Croatia and Turkey.

Dublin was the only city in Ireland surveyed.

The survey was conducted by Gallup Hungary as a Flash/Eurobarometer survey. Five hundred randomly-selected individuals were polled in each city.
