The Department of Justice has provided £700,000 for a programme aimed at cutting juvenile crime in Clondalkin, Co Dublin. The money is allocated under the Tower programme, a probation project set up following publication of the Report on Urban Crime and Disorder, said the Minister of State at the Department, Mr Austin Currie.

It would enable a new facility for Marks Lane, Rowlagh, to cater for 36 trainees in woodwork, computers, sport and leisure activities. It should be ready by spring.

Mr Currie said the causes of crime were many and required a solution which addressed not just crime but a range of socioeconomic issues. This project would be welcomed by Clondalkin community as it recognised these aspects of the problem.
