Funding for festivals celebrating everything from ukuleles to prawns will be announced today by Minister of State for Tourism Michael Ring.

More than €685,000 has been approved by Fáilte Ireland for 170 smaller festivals and events next year. These festivals include the Ukulele Hooley in Dún Laoghaire, the Joe Dolan Festival in Mullingar and the Dublin Bay Prawn Festival.

The Nenagh Silent Film Festival has received a boost, as has Cork’s Paddy Games festival – this event involves competitions such as mobile phone throwing.

A festival celebrating Charlie Chaplin in Waterville, Co Kerry will get funds, as will the Johnny Keenan Banjo Festival in Tullamore.
