A Clondalkin woman who stole the life savings a pensioner intended to use for the burial of herself and her husband has been jailed for two years at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court. Margaret Ward (39), a mother of two, of Greenfort Lawns, and also with an address at Donore Avenue, threw coins on the floor of the Ballyfermot branch of the Bank of Ireland to distract the pensioner and then made off with her £4,000 savings.

Ward pleaded guilty to the theft on March 12th, 1996.
