A young woman who suffered catastrophic injuries after being struck by a car while crossing a bridge in Galway city is to receive €3 million under a settlement of her High Court case.

Louise O’Connor (26) was preparing for her final-year law exams at National University of Ireland Galway when she was hit by the car as she was crossing the river Corrib in Galway on March 23rd, 2005.

Ms O’Connor, Meelick, Co Limerick, had sued the driver and owner of the car, Frank Maher, of College Road, Galway. She also sued NUIG and Galway City Council.
