$2.5m haul at Heathrow

LONDON-A BAG containing $2.5 million (£1

LONDON-A BAG containing $2.5 million (£1.5 million) in cash, part of a US aid package to the ailing Russian economy, has been stolen at Heathrow Airport. The money disappeared from a high security cargo compound near Terminal 4 moments before it was to be loaded on to a Moscow bound flight.

It was stolen last Tuesday morning while awaiting transfer from a New York Heathrow flight to British Airways' scheduled service to the Russian capital.

The stolen high denomination bills belonged to the Republic National Bank of New York, one of the banks used by the US government to deliver aid payments to Russia.
