Eleven police officers investigating the deaths of two colleagues have been shot dead in Chechnya.

The incidents were in the north of the province far from the main rebel hideouts in the southern mountains.

Three other officers have been killed after a car they were inspecting exploded near the city of Gudermes.

Two Russian servicemen have been killed and several wounded in nine separate rebel attacks on Russian positions and checkpoints over the past 24 hours, an official says.

Three other servicemen have been killed and 10 wounded after their military vehicles struck land mines.
