Kiev - Eleven Ukrainian miners were killed, and another two were missing, after accidents in mines in the country's east, the emergencies ministry said last night.

In the worst accident, eight miners were killed in a methane gas explosion at the Kirov mine in the Donetsk region of eastern Ukraine. Meanwhile, three other miners were fatally injured while working deep underground in two separate mineshaft accidents in the Donetsk and Lugansk regions.
