SCOTLAND: About 100 people were last night being questioned in Scotland by police in connection with a major investigation into the distribution of child pornography.

Raids were carried out at homes across Scotland yesterday as part of Operation Falcon.

The operation is understood to be targeting people whose credit card details have been used to purchase child porn images from a US website.

Officers from all Scottish forces and the Scottish Drug Enforcement Agency raided homes and premises across the country, seizing computers and related equipment.

Detailed examinations will now be carried out on the equipment to establish any criminal links.

Police would only confirm that a number of people were "helping with their inquiries", but it is understood about 100 people were being quizzed by detectives in connection with the operation.

Yesterday's raids began at dawn and continued throughout the day.

Operation Falcon originally began in the US as an investigation into internet child pornography.

The FBI identified an American-based website involved in the alleged distribution of pornographic images involving children.

The site is believed to have demanded credit card details from customers to allow access to the illegal images.

Police in the US traced these credit card details to customers around the world and passed the information on to the relevant forces.
