Nairobi - About 1.7 million people in Sudan are going hungry because of insecurity, drought, floods and bans on humanitarian flights, the UN World Food Programme (WFP) said yesterday.

Most of the needy are in war-ravaged southern Sudan, according to a WFP statement, which appealed for $58 million for the crisis.
