A former Labour candidate who stood for election to Ennis urban council in 1994 was yesterday fined £1,000 at Ennis District Court to having in his possession, with the purpose of supplying, videos containing pornographic material.
Christopher Moloney, of New Releases Video Club, Carmody Street, Ennis, was charged under Section 9 (1) of the Video Recording Act 1989 after a Garda raid on his video shop on August 24th last when 103 videos were seized and sent to the official censor of films.
According to Insp. Michael Barry, of Ennis Garda Station, in relation to five of the videos, the censor placed a certificate that the viewing of them would tend by reason of the inclusion of obscene and indecent matter to deprave or corrupt those who might view them.
Moloney, who was unsuccessful in his campaign for the council in 1994, polling just 56 votes, pleaded guilty.
