Science showsIf going to a science gallery sounds not-very-holidays then it's only because you haven't been to Pearse Street in Dublin to the Science Gallery where the exhibitions manage to convey complex subjects in a vastly entertaining, non-boffin type way.
Elements: The Beauty of Chemistryexhibition is on now (until September 30th) and it explores what those curious symbols in the periodic table mean, from liquid mercury and glowing uranium to sinister arsenic. On August 13th there are two workshops for children, called the Elements, Explosions, and Excitement chemistry show. Scientific Sue will demonstrate some of the wackiest experiments around – colour changes, super foams, disgusting slime and a fire-breathing dragon. Tickets: €6, four for €20. In Belfast, at W5, the science museum, the interactive summer event for children (over 8 years) is The Legend of the Lost Relic, a short mission-based laser tag game where players use a phaser to tag opponents to take them out of the game (until they regenerate). The mission is to find the lost relic. It sounds a bit like paintballing, but less messy and with clever clues to solve.
