Anne Carey, a final-year fashion student in NCAD, was chosen to design a special dress for the launch of a range of flowers for Valentine’s Day. Lidl’s Grand Prix roses, which are grown in the Netherlands and characterised by their rich, ruby colour, were the starting point for Carey’s feminine and romantic dress, shown here on model Sarah Morrissey.

The ruching on the red and pink silk dress not only deliberately references the roses, but was also her way of leaving no leftovers in the fabric “to remain true to the retailer’s philosophy of quality at the lowest possible prices”, she says. The roses go on sale next Friday, February 11th, at prices from €2.99 for a single red rose upwards.
