Toyota to recall over 10,500 cars due to possible fault

TOYOTA IS recalling 10,550 cars in Ireland over a potential fault in the rear suspension. It involves 6,750 Avensis and 3,800 Rav4 models and is part of a global recall of almost 780,000 vehicles.

“The potential problem identified involves the rear suspension arm of the vehicle. If during a maintenance procedure, nuts for adjusting the rear wheel alignment are improperly tightened, it could, over time, lead to free movement between the two portions of the arm,” Toyota Ireland said.

A spokesman said initially this would result in an abnormal knocking noise during driving. And in rare circumstances it could result in the two portions of the arm separating, thus affecting the car’s handling. However, the firm said no such incidents had been recorded in Ireland.

The vehicles involved were manufactured between November 2008 and January 2011 in the case of the Avensis cars, and Rav4s built between November 2005 and August 2010.

Toyota owners who are concerned their vehicle may be part of the recall can contact their local Toyota dealer or the Toyota customer service line on 01-4190222.
