Land Rover is planning a new seven-seater model for 2012 which will be the first all-new vehicle under new owners Tata Motors.

Sources at just-auto.com website suggest the new vehicle, currently called Project L486, will share many parts with the current Freelander platform. However, it will have its own bodywork and interior.

Project L486 will also get a longer wheelbase and a wider body to accommodate a seven-seat interior layout.

Rumoured names include "Ventura" which has been associated with Land Rover previously, but not on a production car.

It looks likely that the Ventura will be more focussed towards the US market where the seven-seater could replace the Freelander altogether.
