BMW ENGINEERS are busy with new product developments these days, not least a new hybrid sports car and a hatchback GT version of the new 3-Series.
The 3-Series GT (pictured) features the same raised seating position and ride height as the bigger 5-Series GT and will also adopt a two-tier rear hatch design. While the 5-Series version has failed to catch much attention in Ireland, it has done relatively well in other markets. The new 3-Series version will come with both rear-wheel-drive and xDrive AWD configuration. This spy-shot gives a preview of what the new car will look like, revealing it will share the aggressive new look that's being implemented across BMW's line-up. Pricing will reflect the car's positioning above the standard 3-Series and it will offer yet another challenger to the likes of the Audi Q3 and its ilk. The GT version of the new 3-Series will be presented at the Geneva Motor Show next March.
Meanwhile, the production version of what's to become BMW's plug-in hybrid i8 supercar has been spotted. The i8 will be the poster car of the Bavarian car firm's new sub-brand, i, once it debuts. The production i8 is said to pack 2+2 seating and a 0-100 km/h time in the 4.8-second range along with a supercar price tag.
