Ford has launched two new sportier versions of its Ka model - a performance version called the SportKa (right) and a soft-top two seater, to be called the Streetka. The Streetka is expected to go on sale here next spring - in time for another glorious summer no doubt - with the Sportska arriving on the Irish market later in the year.
The Sportka becomes the performance flagship of the little city car range, with a 95 bhp 1.6 litre engine.
The Ghia-built Streetka, first shown at the Turin Motor Show in 2000, has evolved from concept car to production reality.
A soft-top two-seater, the Streetka can be made roofless in less than half a minute. The manually-operated fabric hood can be put away by one person.
Beneath the roof mechanism - where the rear seats would be in the standard version of the Ka - is an additional small storage space.
Along with frameless windows, there's no B-pillar either, but a pair of integrated steel roll-over bars sit behind the two seats and are the only projections above Streetka's waistline when its hood is down. It shares the same 108 mph power pack as Sportka, and the unit delivering a combined mpg of 34.7 mpg.
Prices for the two sassy Fords will be announced nearer the 2003 launch date.
