Esat boss Denis O'Brien, who made about £287 million from the sale of Esat Telecom, has been shopping for a new house, but he hasn't looked too far away from his current home in Ballsbridge. He is thought to have made an offer for a large detached house at 6 Raglan Road, in Ballsbridge, Dublin 4. The house is owned by former restaurateur and property developer Peter White, who now divides his time between Dublin and southern Spain, where he has business interests.

Number 6 Raglan Road is a fairly special property. One of the few detached houses in Ballsbridge, its value could be anywhere between £5 million and £7 million. It is a two-storey over garden level detached house standing on a site of over a quarter of an acre, at the corner of Raglan Road and Elgin Road. The ground floor has a large split level reception room and a kitchen fitted by Smallbone.

There is also a guest bedroom at this level. Above, at hall level there are three fine reception rooms and a study. There are four bedrooms upstairs, including a main bedroom suite with an opulent dressing room and an en suite bathroom. Times have changed since the Whites last considered selling Raglan Road. The house was last offered for sale in 1990 through Gunne, but was withdrawn from auction at £510,000.
