From a converted RIC barracks in Co Wicklow to artisan cottages and traditional family houses in suburbia, there's a lot to view this weekend, writes FRANCES O'ROURKE

A LARGE cottage surrounded by woodland two miles from the village of Avoca in Co Wicklow has had its price cut to €395,000, down from €695,000 in 2007. The price drop is partially explained by a reduction in the amount of land being offered. Previously the five-bedroom house came with seven acres. Now it is for sale with one acre, according to Knight Frank. Called The Old Barracks, it’s a substantial five-bedroom house with 250sq m (2,500sq ft). Once the local RIC barracks, built in the 1840s, the house has been renovated and extended over the years.

On view Saturday, noon-1pm

A SECLUDED back garden is one of the main attractions of a four-bed semi-detached house at 16 Fortfield Drive, Terenure, Dublin 6W which is for sale at €825,000 through Gunne. The 1940s 127sq m (1,367sq ft) house is in need of some updating, but there’s potential to extend in the 100ft long back garden, according to the agents. Accommodation includes two reception rooms, breakfastroom and kitchen.
