Beautiful prints at great price

The roadworks connecting the red and green Luas lines may be playing chaos with traffic in Dublin, but it is worth remembering the transport system has an engineering elegance that has enhanced the look of the capital, as evidenced in this work by photographer Patrick Donald (01 681 5225, patrickdonald.com).

Donald is offering Irish Times readers who present today’s column at his gallery at Unit 8 and 9 Royal Hibernian Way, Dawson Street, the chance to buy the print for a reduction of 10 per cent. Unframed, it comes in sizes from 38 x 20.30cm (€35) up to 122cm x 71cm (€350). Or choose the more contemporary acrylic-coated panoramic format ranging from €300 for a piece 76cm x 28.50cm to €500 for a large piece 110cm x 40cm.

Offer ends May 14th (contact 087 2900780).

It comes in two-drawer, (€345); three-drawer (€460); and four-drawer (€575) versions and the facade can be painted any colour. RP07TREINDING1_WEBTrending . . . stylish smoke alarm

These battery-operated moth-shaped smoke alarms are a fun-looking feature with life-saving qualities. Aesthetes will love the fact the device looks beautiful – something the traditional smoke alarm lacks. The Finnish design is also practical. The entire surface functions as a test button so when you burn the toast while bleary-eyed some morning, you can disable it easily.

The Lento, 20cm long, and available in green, grey or pink, costs €45 at The Old Mill Stores (086 391 9237, theoldmillstores.ie) in Leap, Co Cork. Post and packaging costs an additional

Three of the best . . . hard-working linen

Change the mood at home with lighter touch linen. Made from French and Belgian flax this washed and hand loomed bedding from London-based The Linen Works (00 44 203 744 1020 thelinenworks.com) comes in gorgeous soft fashion tones including Parisian blue and cassis pink, pictured. A flat double sheet, costs about €161, duvet cover about €175 and Oxford pillowcases, €37.50 and €63, ex delivery.

In its napkins and tea towels Co Monaghan-based 31 Chapel Lane (31chapellane. com) uses Irish linen from Baird McNutt (048 2589 1206 bairdmcnutt.com) the Co Donegal-designed and Ballymena-based manufactured supplier. Picnic-perfect madras style checked napkins cost €13 each, tea towels (ideal for cleaning glassware) cost €16.

Hardwearing linen feels tactile on armchairs and sofas and is hardwearing. It also lightens the mood in a livingroom or conservatory. This slipper chair, about €931, is from UK-based Sweetpea and Willow (sweetpeaandwillow.com). Castle Market-based Murphy Sheehy (01 6770316 murphysheehy.com) and Helen Turkington Fabrics (01 2602524 helenturkington.ie) are good sources of upholstery grade linen.
