The 71-bedroom Eccles Hotel in Glengariff, west Cork, has been acquired by the Hanratty family who recently sold the Howth Lodge Hotel, in Howth, Co Dublin. The new owners plan to spend up to £3 million on upgrading the Eccles which was bought for slightly under £2 million. It caters primarily for tourists.

The Howth Lodge was sold for £8 million to the Cosgrave Property Group, which is awaiting a ruling by An Bord Pleanala on its plans to replace it with 100 apartments including six penthouses.
