Green apartment in Temple Bar for £195,000

When the apartments in the Green Building in Temple Bar first went on sale five years ago, there was overnight queuing, with keen buyers waiting to snap up the cleverly designed apartments in what is still one of the most innovative buildings in the city.

At the time they seemed expensive, with two-beds selling from around £70,000, but they did come with a list of unique plusses, including heavy input from several artists who designed the doors and balconies, and sophisticated energy efficient systems that include a solar powered hot water system. They also came with tax breaks which do not (check) apply once the apartment has been sold on.

A two-bedroom third floor apartment is now for sale by private treaty through Ross McParland, which is looking for around £195,000. Apartment number 5 has two small double bedrooms as well as one of the more interesting livingroom designs in the building. It features a floor-to-ceiling revolving bay window which opens to create a round balcony.

The kitchen is small but extremely well-designed, with fitted pine units and stylish basket drawers. There are hand-painted tiles on the wall and a window which looks out on to the internal courtyard, with its feature sculpture by Vivienne Roche. The bathroom has no window but is very fashionably fitted out.

The apartment is being sold furnished, which in this case is a real bonus as there are two particularly attractive modern wardrobes in the bedrooms and contemporary chairs and a table in the livingroom. All the walls are painted white with the exception of an exposed brick wall in the livingroom and a vivid orange wall on one side of the hall.
