An Bord Pleanála has gone against the advice of its inspector in its decision to grant permission for an apartment scheme at a former nursing home in Dún Laoghaire.

Jerry Ryan has got the green light from the planning board to demolish Tivoli Lodge to make way for a three-storey apartment block and to transform York House, a mid-19th century property, into residential use. The site is at the corner of York Road and Tivoli Road. Recommending that the board refuse the scheme, its inspector said that while the proposed development is acceptable in principle, there were a number of issues which "raised concern" including scale and density, injury to streetscape and visual dominance. A revision of the development needed to be undertaken, she said. The board, however, did not accept the inspector's advice and granted permission, but attached a number of conditions including the reduction of the number of apartments from 14 to 10.
