GLASNEVIN: FROM €235,000: MOST RETIREMENT villages tend to be located well outside Dublin city

GLASNEVIN: FROM €235,000:MOST RETIREMENT villages tend to be located well outside Dublin city. One of the exceptions is the Beneavin Healthcare Campus at Beneavin Road in Glasnevin, Dublin 11, where 20 newly-built retirement apartments are going on sale this week through agent Hooke MacDonald.

The one and two-bedroom homes in The Cedars are aimed at people aged over 55 who want to enjoy an independent retirement lifestyle with the backup of support services on the healthcare campus.

One-bedroom apartments with floor areas from 51–52.5sq m (545-575sq ft) are priced from €235,000 while two-bedroom units of 68.5–88sq m (735-950sq ft) will be available from €280,000.

All units have attractive finishes, including cream traditional-style kitchens with antique brass handles and counter-top lighting. The apartments come with full integrated electrical appliances including oven/grill, microwave, hob, fridge/freezer, dishwasher and washer/dryer.

Bathrooms are wetrooms and include tiled surfaces, slip-resistant flooring and support handles. Livingrooms have glazed French doors onto a balcony. The gas central heating system has controls in each apartment.

Common areas in The Cedars, like the underground car-park, entrance hallway and corridors, are monitored by CCTV cameras.

The Cedars overlooks the playing fields of Beneavin De La Salle College and has views of the Dublin mountains. Shared facilities include a south-facing residents’ lounge. There are shops and a park nearby and the National Botanic Gardens are not far away.

The Cedars forms part of a community run by FirstCare Nursing Care Retirement Homes. There are two nursing homes on site, the first of which opened in 2004.

There are also three privately owned one-bedroom bungalows for independent living on campus and an 18-bedroom convalescent unit to cater for people needing short term convalescence.
