Beware the ides of March

That’s tomorrow, you know

That’s tomorrow, you know. Julius Caesar’s assassination on March 15th, 44 BC and the dramatisation of that brutal event by William Shakespeare, have forever marked March 15th as a day of infamy.

Those keen to walk in the footsteps of Caesar and his assassins, but unwilling to fork out for a room in an expensive hotel in the Italian capital, would do well to investigate the eminently affordable three-day Rome city break offered by An Óige, the Irish Youth Hostel Association, in collaboration with the Italian Youth Hostel Association. The package costs just €140 (€150 during high season) and includes three nights half-board at Foro Italico Youth Hostel, a three-day Rome pass facilitating free entry to into two museums and a 50 per cent reduction on all others, as well as unlimited access to all bus and metro lines, a ferry cruise along the Tiber and a one-day city sightseeing tour. All you have to do is make your own way there and back.
