FASHION:Back to the 1970s . . . printed dresses under winter coats and, lo! clogs

THE FRUITS of the season in fashion terms are all gathered here at a lakeside location near Athlone photographed by visiting New York photographer Farnaz K. There’s a haunted, cinematic air to Farnaz’s images of an ingénue trapped in all her everyday finery in the dilapidated ruins of an old Irish lakeside fortress, and a homegrown look to the cossetted chunky knits and legwarmers that she’s wearing.

To this stylish but frugal wintry mix are added the season’s key coats in black, grey or camel teamed with printed dresses, most effectively Peter Jensen’s wayward graphics (available from Dolls Boutique in Emorville Avenue off the South Circular Road in Dublin 8) or the cute swan motifs from Paul Joe (available from Brown Thomas). Easy to copy are the cropped pants shown here buttoned asymmetrically, while faux fur headwarmers worn as neckpieces, sequined scarves and clog boots add playful, nonchalant finishing touches. Very 1970s. Look in the attic as well as the shops.
