A double decker bus carrying dozens of passengers crashed in Dublin City centre on Friday afternoon, with one person brought to hospital. The incident happened at about 3:30pm close to City Hall when the driver appeared to lose control of the vehicle.
The number 150 bus heading to Rossmore from its terminus on Hawkin’s Street crashed into a refuse bin on Dame Street close to a tourist information office on the plaza outside the entrance to Dublin Castle. It then travelled a short distance up the street before coming to a stop after hitting a lamp-post.
A man in a high-viz jacket boarded the bus to provide aid to the driver, according to an eyewitness who watched the incident unfold.
Two tenders from Dublin Fire Brigade, a support vehicle and ambulance and gardaí were quickly on the scene and the road was blocked off. Dozens of passengers were escorted off the bus through the middle doors.

A Garda spokesman said that as of 4:20pm Garda and emergency services remained at the scene on the junction of Dame Street and Parliament Street in Dublin 2. “The male driver, and sole occupant of the vehicle, is being conveyed to hospital,” a statement said. “No other injuries were reported [and] local diversions are in place.”
