Woman (60s) died in hospital five days after incident

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to a road collision in which a woman was killed and her passenger injured.

The incident occurred on the R458, near Rathfolan, Newmarket on Fergus, Co Clare, last Friday between 10.30pm and 11pm.

The female driver, aged in her 60s, was taken to University Hospital Limerick for treatment of serious injuries.

She was pronounced dead on Tuesday evening. The coroner has been notified and a postmortem will be arranged.

The female passenger, aged in her 70s, was taken to hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

A technical examination of the scene was conducted by Garda forensic collision investigators. The road has since reopened.

Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the collision to come forward.

Road users with camera footage of the incident are asked to make this footage available to investigating gardaí.
