PETER HORAN AND GERRY HARRINGTON
Fortune Favours the Merry Cló Iar Chonnachta ***

This is what happens when wisdom and experience coalesce with youthful vigour. Peter Horan is a veteran Sligo flute player who's left his mark on a rake of players across the generations. His rapport with Sliabh Luachra fiddler Gerry Harrington is unequivocal, and their eclectic tune choices say much about their grá for the tradition. Michael Coleman's influence is palpable, yet the duo's deference to the great Sligo fiddler never overshadows the tunes. Their reading of Ed Reavy's Lad O'Beirne's hornpipe is a fine tribute to both player and composer, while the sole slow air, She Sailed from Dublin, is like a bellows breathing fresh air between the plethora of jigs, reels and hornpipes. A delicious snapshot of two players in love with the music. www.cic.ie Siobhán Long
