RNLI Lifeboats: After our item about RNLI Lifeboats in this column on Tuesday, the RNLI has asked us to point out that although it welcomes visitors to lifeboat stations, the visits are subject to operational requirements. Group visits by schools, scouts and others need to be pre- arranged and have adequate adult supervision. Most stations are open on certain days during the year when lifeboats are alongside for viewing and volunteer crew members demonstrate life-saving equipment and answer questions. Many stations are happy to receive visitors on an ad-hoc basis, subject to crew members' availability and to emergency situations.
