The Irish premiere of Jonathan Spector’s Tony Award-winning comedy Eureka Day is among the 2026 season of productions announced by the Gate Theatre.
Eureka Day, with Philippa Dunne of Motherland, is a comedy already well-received in London and Broadway. Directed by Roy Alexander Weise it deals with the impact of a mumps outbreak in a liberal, American elementary school, asking the question: “is inclusion for everyone”.
Eureka Day opens on February 4th with previews from 30th January 30th. It runs till Saturday 7th March.
March will see Poor return to the Gate. This acclaimed stage adaptation of Katriona O’Sullivan’s memoir, adapted by Sonya Kelly and directed by Gate artistic director, Róisín McBrinn, has been praised for its humanity, humour and raw honesty. Poor opens on March 16th with previews from March 14th. It runs until Saturday April 25th.

The Gate will also welcome back the work of its old friend Oscar Wilde, having first presented his work in 1929. An Ideal Husband returns to the Gate stage for the first time in twelve years. Wilde’s classic is a thriller with intrigue and deception at its core. An Ideal Husband opens on May 13th with previews from May 8th. It runs till Saturday July 11th.

Olivier Award-winning writer and director Conor McPherson’s The Brightening Air will be staged in July. This new play explores what pulls us together and away from each other, and what parts fate and magic play in it all. The cast is to be announced in 2026.
The Brightening Air opens on July 22nd and runs till Sunday 30th August.
Public bookings open from noon on Monday November 17th.
